Lambertville Engagement Session – Jamie & Tim

Jamie is an uber stylish hair and makeup artist and Tim is a super nice local police officer. As a couple they are amazing together. I couldn’t be happier working with them at their Lambertville Engagement Session. We scheduled their GTKY session last fall and decided to have the session take place in the Lambertville area. This is a super vintage and grungy area to create in and I love it there in the fall. They brought their cute pup Tucker with them for the session. People that know me, understand my huge love for dogs. They are like your first child if you do not have any children yet. We had a great time together and can’t wait for their wedding this fall at The Stone Terrace.

Lambertville sits right on the Delaware River in Hunterdon County, directly across from New Hope, Pennsylvania. The two towns share a creative energy built over decades, full of art galleries, independent shops, and brick buildings that have been standing since the 1800s. The back streets and canal towpath have a grungy, layered quality that is rare in New Jersey. It photographs beautifully in the fall when the leaves drop and the afternoon light gets low and warm earlier than you expect. For an engagement session where you want texture and character without feeling staged, Lambertville delivers every time.

Lambertville Engagement Session: Jamie, Tim, and Tucker

We met in downtown Lambertville on a Saturday afternoon in the fall. The October light there comes in golden and cuts through at a sharp angle because of how the buildings sit along the river. It is the kind of glow that makes everything look warmer than it actually is, which suited Jamie and Tim perfectly.

Jamie works in hair and makeup, which means she has an eye for how things look and is completely natural in front of the camera. Tim is a local police officer. Like a lot of people who work demanding physical jobs, he was a little unsure at first. Within about ten minutes he was completely relaxed and the two of them were just being themselves. That is all I am ever really waiting for.

Tucker came along and made the whole session looser. Dog energy does that. People stop overthinking and just react, which is exactly where the best photographs come from. Tucker ran, they chased him, they laughed. The session found its rhythm fast. Sessions with dogs are some of my favorites, every single time.

The back alleys and canal area gave us layers and texture without traveling far. We worked the brick walls, old wooden doors, and the towpath where trees were dropping leaves into the canal. By late afternoon the light was perfect. Low, angled, warm. We moved through a few different spots to keep things fresh and came away with a strong set of photographs.

Jamie and Tim were planning a fall wedding at The Stone Terrace in Warren County, NJ, one of the better outdoor settings in the state for a fall reception. A GTKY session like this one matters in that context. By the time the wedding day arrives, there is no awkwardness. I already know how they move, what makes them laugh, and where to be.

Considering a New Jersey Engagement or Wedding?

Engagement sessions do not need to be elaborate. The best ones feel like the couple is hanging out and I happen to be there with a camera. Lambertville in the fall is that kind of place.
