Getting to Know – Shawna & Brad – Sea Isle City, NJ

Shawna was a bridesmaid at a wedding I captured in 2007. She wanted to have her GTKY session in Sea Isle City and her parents have a house down there which was at a perfect spot. The day we had their session was spitting rain the entire time we shot, but it just added to the ambiance. They also brought their dogs with them for the shoot. Anyone who knows me understands my love for pups! I also took them to the carnival that was under construction in Sea Isle. We had an awesome session and can’t wait until their wedding in March of 2011.

This is the first time I photographed a Getting to Know You session in another country. We captured their session the day prior to Jill & Ryan’s wedding. The setting is beautiful and I could have photographed all day there. Excellence Resort in Playa Mujeres, Mexico has so many different locations to create photos in that it is absolutely perfect. This was captured just a few hours after our plane landed in Cancun.

The bugs by the pool were out of control, good thing I always bring bug spray with me on shoots.

Getting to Know – Katie & Phil – West Long Branch, NJ

It turned out to be a beautiful day for Katie and Phil. They met during college at Monmouth University, so it was the obvious location for their GTKY session. Katie and Phil are very cool people with a classic, vintage style about them. Phil loves James Dean, so I studied some of the iconic portraits of the actor and we took some shots of Phil in the same fashion. We hurried to the beach to finish our session. Phil broke out some acoustic guitar, which he is rather awesome at. This couple will be getting married this fall at The Merion in Cinnaminson.

The camera in this series was owned by her father who passed away.

Maxine & Michael are getting married in 2011 and they are doing another Getting to Know You session in 2010, but they wanted to do a shoot right away for Christmas. I came up with an idea of shooting at a tree farm in formal attire. They loved the idea so I spoke with the owner of a local tree farm and he opened it for us after hours to shoot there. We were lucky because the weekend after the shoot they were cutting all the trees down to sell for the holidays.

On the day of Christen & James Getting to Know You session there was a 70% chance of rain and it was supposed to be cloudy. When we met in Wildwood it was sunny and warm—thanks for being wrong again, Mr. Weatherman. It rained heavy the night before so the beach had a section of really gooey mud, which I have never seen on a beach. They were great to be around and we had tons of fun. What can I say? I work with awesome people. They are having their wedding next fall at Indian Springs Country Club in Marlton, NJ.

It rained heavy the night before so most of the beach was covered with mud, but that made the session even more fun.

This is one of my favorite images from 2009!
